Procountor
Connect Exopen to Procountor to automatically sync bookkeeping, accounts receivable and payable, projects, dimensions and products via Procountor's public API.
Procountor is a Finnish accounting system. The integration uses Procountor's M2M (Machine-to-Machine) API.
You need administrator rights in the Procountor company to create API keys.
Step 1: Prepare Procountor
In Procountor you create an API key that Exopen uses to read the company's data. The key is tied to a Procountor user.
1. Create a dedicated API user
Create a separate user in Procountor used only by the integration. The user needs read access to the company's data — the simplest approach is to grant read access across the entire company. Missing permissions show up as empty data after the sync.
You can restrict the user to M2M Access so it can't log in to Procountor's regular UI. Leave other restrictions off to avoid sync failures.
Permissions required for a complete sync:
| Data | Permission in Procountor |
|---|---|
| Company information | Management → Basic company info |
| Chart of accounts | Management → Chart of accounts and default reports |
| Customers | Sales → Customer register |
| Suppliers | Purchases → Supplier register |
| Products | Sales → Product register and Purchases → Product register |
| Sales invoices | Sales → Rights for sales invoices |
| Purchase invoices | Purchases → Rights for purchase invoices |
| Vouchers / journal entries | Accounting → Rights for journal receipts |
| Accounting reports | Accounting → Accounting reports |
| Bank statements & reference payments | Payments → Bank statements and reference payments |
| Invoice attachments | Management → Basic company info + Documents enabled (see below) |
The easiest approach is to assign the user the Accountant role and additionally enable Bank statements and reference payments under Payments. This covers all data Exopen syncs without granting write access.
Permissions are managed under Management → Users and user rights in Procountor. See Procountor's article on users and user rights for more details.
2. Create the API key
- Sign in to Procountor as an administrator.
- Go to Basics → API client keys in the top right.
- Click New API key.
- Select the user from Step 1.
- Enter Exopen's client ID
exopenClientand click Create. - Copy the generated API key — you'll need it in Step 2.
Step-by-step instructions are available in Procountor's M2M authentication guide.
3. Enable Documents (optional)
For Exopen to download invoice images and attachments, Documents must be enabled in the company:
Management → Company info → Usage settings → Documents → Activate Documents in environment
Procountor may charge a fee per downloaded document. Only enable this if you want invoice images to sync to Exopen.
Step 2: Create the data source in Exopen's Portal
- Sign in to Exopen's portal.
- Go to Data sources and click New data source.
- Select Procountor from the list of available integrations.
- Paste the API key from Step 1 into the API key field.
- Click Add data source.
Once the data source is created, an initial sync starts automatically. It takes between thirty minutes and a few hours depending on data volume.
If you need to swap the API key — for example if the user who owns it leaves — contact support@exopen.se.
