Connect Exopen to Next Project (Next's project-management product) to automatically pull projects, project statuses and status history, booked hours and cost centres.

info

Because the integration authenticates with Exopen's own API credentials, setup is done together with Exopen support. You complete the steps in Next, and Exopen handles the connection itself.

Step 1: Request API activation from Next

The Next Project API is not activated through Next's UI. Email support@next-tech.com and ask Next to activate the API with Exopen as the integrator.

The email should include:

  • Customer number (your database number in Next)
  • Company name
  • Customer contact — name, email and phone
  • Integrator: Exopen Systems AB
  • Integrator contact: support@exopen.se
  • Environment: production or test

Feel free to use this template:

Hi,

We'd like to activate the Next Project API with Exopen as integrator.

Customer number: <your customer number>
Company name: <your company name>
Contact: <name>, <email>, <phone>

Integrator: Exopen Systems AB
Integrator contact: support@exopen.se

Environment: production

Best regards,
<your name>

Next has its own article describing the prerequisites: Prerequisites for using Next Project API.

Step 2: Create a one-time key in Next Project

Once Next confirms that the API is activated, create a One Time API Key in Next Project. Exopen uses this key to obtain a long-lived access token — it can only be used once, so send it on to Exopen as soon as you have created it.

  1. Sign in to Next Project at https://project.next-tech.com/<customer-number>/client/ (replace <customer-number> with your database number).
  2. Click Admin in the top right corner.
  3. Open the Integrations tab.
  4. Select the API keys sub-tab.
  5. Click +, create a new One Time API Key and give it a recognisable name, for example Exopen.
Don't delete the key once it has been used

The one-time key is marked as Used as soon as Exopen exchanges it for an access token. Leave it in place — deleting the key in Next also invalidates the access token Exopen is using, and the integration will stop working.

Step 3: Send the credentials to Exopen

Email support@exopen.se with:

  • Customer number (the same database number as in Next)
  • The one-time key from Step 2

Exopen exchanges the key for an access token against Next, creates the data source and kicks off an initial sync. The first sync typically takes anywhere from thirty minutes up to a couple of hours depending on data volume.
